Since the advent of email my friends all know me as MzWord - my global email handle. I write. I edit. Short stuff, long stuff, training stuff, medical stuff, proposals, white papers, annual reports, newsletters, technical gobbledygook, Web stuff, and, of course, fun stuff for friends and family, like reports from my overseas adventures, a memoir, essays, a bit of movie script, and short stories. So - reading the words on the page written by someone else has been quite a revelation. The challenge is to try not to rewrite it in my own words, being a Constant Editor. So, there I was last night, standing and smiling in front of the mirror, taking the first paragraph of the new script and committing it to memory. And trying not to put it in my own words. It took a while, but I got it down. Even though we'll be recording using a teleprompter, I think it would just look so much better to have my introduction - where I'll be standing and probably walking through the store, towards the camera - be as natural and wide-eyed as possible.
Now that's done. All I have to do is rehearse my stance and 'tude.
I reread the entire script aloud, too. It takes about an hour and a half, just to read it. Half way through I got cotton mouth, poured myself a really tall glass of cool water, and continued reading til 10 PM. I slept very well last night. First words upon awaking this morning - of course, the memorized script. If they're in there gurgling in your unconscious all night, somehow, they just arise and pour out of your mouth in the morning.
I'm sure you will do well Lisa. Your ability to commit a script to memory looked seemingly simple. And if the team you are working with is in any way collaborative, they may even take suggestions. Remember, they did come to you for the "Voice". What comes from your mouth should be natural to YOU.
