There must have been hundreds of auditioners at this cattle call for Scary Cow Productions at a theater on Sutter Street in SF starting noon on Saturday. Well organized. We were all ages, from five to sixty something; all colors; all looks. They had us fill out a form, then wait, and stand in short lines at the top of the stairs before letting us in, one by one, to the basement theater where we each performed our two-minute monologues for the camera and maybe 35 casting directors seated in red plush theater seats. I think this is the theater where I saw a mediocre production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?" a couple of years ago. It's a perfect place to audition.
I saw some of my fellow actors from other days - Nick who played a detective in that shoot in Corte Madera a couple of months ago ("I Almost Got Away With It!") and Lois, who had performed her monologue for me while we sat between takes on a park bench in Sacramento on "My Name is Khan" just the other day.
I wasn't nervous, and my adrenaline rush built during the monologue. I'm still doing Erin Brokovitch, and perhaps know her too well now. I gave it a lot of color this time, no holding back. On the last line I turned on my heel and walked offstage, so last moment is probably delivered off camera. There was a nice ripple of applause, and one guy yelled from the audience, "You show em!"
Now the waiting game begins.
Had so much pent up energy afterwards I walked around the Marina green and Chestnut Street for hours afterwards. Got to Marina and Baker Street, and who do you think was there? The entire familiar crew and actors from "My Name is Khan." No extras today. Looks like they were shooting a wedding scene at the duck pond of the Palace of Fine Arts. A well-controlled ring of Indian families made a loose circle on a little hill above the scene.
