Today's shoot for a medical video - my second project for this producer - went about as smoothly as any shoot could. Only issues I observed had to do with lighting set-up and wardrobe. I brought three blouse choices, and interestingly enough, the producer ended up choosing my black and white checked blouse bought originally for the character Trainer Terry in "In-World War," but not used for that film.
Today I played a woman who is depressed and, believe me, dear readers, I had a lot to draw on. I got to imitate myself saying things to my fictional sister - things I have said to other intimates, trying to shake them out of their funks and moodiness (yes, in my alternate universe, I'm a well-paid shrink). Somehow, my four short scripts all came together this day, in less than an hour, as though my entire life had been lived for this very episode. In one scene I acted with a pro named Jose who played my cool doctor. This excellent actor says he has been in the business for over 30 years, with a great career in radio all over the Bay Area and Nevada and tons of work in the Sacramento region. I gave him my card. Sure hope Jose and I work together again.
In thanking me, the project manager from the hospital, the producer, the cameraman, the sound engineer - all were extremely generous in their compliments. Let's call her "Lucky Carlson," said producer Tony. "Maybe One-Take Carlson."
I gave the video studio VP a stack of my new cards. We will continue to do business, I'm sure.
Tonight I got my scripts for next week's shoot for a new medical video client. Looks pretty simple. I play a patient again. No wardrobe situation next week, as I'll be in a hospital gown.
