Exhaustion Sets In

Just home from my adventures in auditioning and rehearsing. Three episodes today, none strenuous unto itself, but the driving and acting adds up by the remains of the day. Should not have gone out last night...but a little dancing was really necessary. Thanks, Jeanne, for getting me over to the Hillside Club and the community dance, organized by none other than the co-founder of MoveOn.org. Joan and her husband really do know how to move and sway... I left early, really, to save my voice, as chatting to disco - which we old girls will do when there are no available men in sight - is not so good for the vocal chords.

Got up early enough to take a walk and get my voice revved with a teaspoon of honey and a cup of java for a telephone read of three different characters at 9:30 AM - the foreign accented shrink (I went Brit), the American professor with a profound knowledge of anthropology, and the good friend, for a short film. The casting director was enthusiastic and asked me if I could come back to audition for the camera next week.

Then it was across the bridge for rehearsal with a new video producer and director, for a medical film on compliance, which will be shown all over the country. Yes, me, in a hospital gown, soon to be seen nationally. Met two of the other actors in the series. We rehearsed at a comfy cafe in the fog district. No stress. They asked me if I'd like to rehearse again next week for another script in the series. I'll be there. These are paid rehearsals.

Then, I had a couple of hours off, so drove to the beach - but didn't walk it - hair fear, ya know... before my 4:50 appearance at the film school on 9th street. Ran in to Costco on 10th for the frozen yogurt and berry as lunch. I got to the stage 45 minutes early and did my monologue. Looked to me as though less actresses 18 - 50 had shown up for this one than had been scheduled, so I got to do my tryout early. They asked if I could do the opening lines of the monologue a second time, with a prop I shall not name. I added a bit of humor this time. Later, thought of how I could have used this prop differently - ah, hindsight. This is also on video. But, I had to sign a waiver for the audition - one regarding liability for the building and the production. The other - because the video may be also used as part of a film they are producing about the making of the feature! A potential 2-fer, my friends!

This indie feature film is called "The Family Theater." I auditioned for the part of Chameleon. I was prepared to do another part as follow-up, to show my range, but wasn't asked. I know nothing about the plot and hope to find out more soon. Awaiting that call now...It's so great that I'm busy next week and have two films in the realm of maybe.
