Two, that's two rehearsals: Firstborn this week, IWW and BHB

I've had two rehearsals this week. So busy am I that I barely have time to sleep. Day job, house stuff, interviews, and other familial familiar deadlines abound. However, it being springtime, I decided over the weekend to spend less time seated in front of this computer, and more time walking. And going to bed before midnight.Which means, getting up after a good night's rest and being able to hit the sidewalk before 8 AM, before the dreary commute to the Valley. And that, dear friends, is the reason your blogger has evaporated of late.

Wednesday and Thursday nights' rehearsals were magnificent. Clarence Johnson, Tatiana Monet, LaToya Johns, Derric Broc.....so moving. Last night Karen videotaped several of us in short interviews about how we actors feel about various aspects of the play, "Firstborn." I was on first. Writer/director Tiffany Golden was kind enough to allow me to read the questions a few minutes ahead of time. I remember this: during the interview, which I think went well, I saw myself in the mirror behind the video operator in the dressing room we used for that shoot, and noticed that my blouse was opened to chest, and that my chest skin was not matching my face skin...these are the damned little annoyances of perfectionism that have nothing to do with acting or the work. Meanwhile, the hair looked good, as did the eyes. Let's celebrate the positive.

Last night Margot, our Wardrobe mistress, also brought me some pearls and a pearl necklace to try on for my Sister Jackie character. Wouldn't ya know I had just bought these pearl earrings? Well, we will have a back-up this way. Margot's are far nicer than my $16.50 starter pair.

Tonight, after the warm-up games (they are getting safer and safer, although one cast member is out tonight because of her minor injury that caused some pain) I was presented with my doctor's white coat and a clipboard. Now, Doc is getting more integrated into her reality. Did a bit of work around the new prop. We ran through my scene with Eli (Clarence) twice...it goes so fast that each time I say my lines I am convinced I have dropped a sentence. Maybe not. It's just damned short. And, am I rushing?

Next, I got to rehearse Sister Jackie's moment when she appears at the pastor's door with the two little girls....not to give much away, but - hey, Latoya's adorable daughter, maybe 4, was there tonight, and I asked if I could borrow her "as a prop" for the scene. WOW! Vive la difference! To work with a real little girl, instead of an imaginary one...even our pastor's (Andre Dos Santos) moment of pre-lasciviousness had a hint of extra zing.

Then we did the fight scene....I cannot give that away.

Next big day for us, Saturday.

Tomorrow night: I will attend the preview screening of a scene from Brant Smith's "In-World War" in SF. Go to the "In-World War" blog - the URL link is at the upper left side of Character Actress Launching's front page. Party after the screening.

In other news: Director Chris Fiorentini has sent me a trailer for his 30-minute short roadtrip movie where I play that lady at the door, "Beat Heart Break." It's looking good. Chris is searching for a bit of financing for his special effects, using film reshot on glass - you have to see how COOL this looks! Write to me and I'll put you in touch with Chris.

So much more to tell ya, but, guess what? It's 11:22 and tomorrow is a big day at the tech factory.
