RIP, Lynn Redgrave

After a seven-year battle with breast cancer, one of the most magnificent actresses of our time, Lynn Redgrave, 67, has passed away at her home in Connecticut, her family beside her. She belonged to the inimitable Redgraves, five generations of actors. Her parents were British stage and film actors Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson. She was the younger sister of Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave and the aunt of the late actress Natasha Richardson.

Lynn Redgrave received two Academy Award nominations - in 1966 for best actress for her role in "Georgy Girl" and in 1998 for best supporting actress in "Gods and Monsters." In "Georgy Girl," which I loved, with fabulous actors James Mason, Alan Bates, and Charlotte Rampling, she played a quick-witted optimist with a body that didn't seem to belong at a time when it seemed that everybody - from London's Twiggy to the wealthy matrons of New York - appeared to be anorexic.

Many of us remember her long-running Weight Watchers commercials, which had the tag line, "This is living."
She suffered from bulimia.

Her brother, stage actor Coring Redgrave, died a month earlier from cancer, on April 6, 2010.

Lynn Redgrave married and worked with British/Canadian/American actor and director John Clark, from 1967 until their divorce in 2000. Their three children are Benjamin, Kelly, and Annabel Lucy.
