Stolen too young from the stage and screen by the ravages of leukemia at 66, Jill Clayburgh, mother of three, wife of playwright David Rabe, daughter of privilege and wealth, was an iconic actress who helped average American women see and define themselves through the prism of feminism over the last three decades. She had this to say about the unglamorous side of the business:
"One of the funny things about actors is that people look at their careers in retrospect, as if they have a plan... Mostly, you just get a call. You're just sitting there going, 'Oh, my God. I'm never going to work again. Oh, God. I'm too old. Maybe I should go and work for Howard Dean.' And then it changes."
Through the magic of the cinema she returns soon - as the mother of Jake Gyllenhaal's character in the upcoming "Love and Other Drugs."
