Had I not seen a fellow actor's Facebook note about Blake Edwards' passing, I would have missed the news. So sad, isn't it, to see these creative giants leaving our planet one by one? (Well, no, I wouldn't want to see them disappear en masse, either.) I will never forget laughing til I hiccuped watching Blake Edwards' Pink Panther movies.
For some reason, I had always thought Blake Edwards had a touch of British in him... I guess due to his long association with Peter Sellers and the sophistication of his art, his marriage to Julie Andrews...but it turns out he was plain ole' William Blake Crump from Tulsa, Oklahoma. His dad was theater director Jack McEdwards. Edwards was also the step-grandson of prolific silent-film director J. Gordon Edwards.
Good thing Blake Edwards received that honorary Academy Award in 2004 for his body of work.
Best quote:
"Being thrown out of this place is significantly better than being thrown out of a leper colony."
