The week plays out

I don't often remark on the auditions that didn't pan out. And I don't dwell on them. But, this time I am so focused on feedback I'll mention this. I reached out to the director for whom I had auditioned a couple of weeks ago as the mother of a soldier. Turns out he has not yet cast that one as he's out of town, has not even reviewed the audition footage. But, he did give some vague feedback. Main one - he didn't remember me. Ouch! All right, I know he saw at least 30 actresses, maybe more.

About the local TV crime show that had that juicy part...I'll have to try to find out who got it and what was great about her.

Yesterday I was one of under 10 people opening day at a 4:30 PM local Landmark Theater showing, there to see the much anticipated Steven Soderbergh "Contagion," much of it shot around San Francisco, using a lot of local extras (none of whom would be recognized, as their faces were covered). Unlike sex, it's not all it's cracked up to be. I just can't believe what a rave review The New Yorker gave this soulless science book flick. Acting was fine, but not nuanced in the least. Laurence Fishburne, however, was terrific, hit all the right notes, brought his role to life. (Mr. Fishburne, have you ever considered directing?)

In other news - I just started taking a class on storytelling with the lovely Jeanne Haynes at Stagebridge in Oakland. Having seen a few of my classmates perform their stories at a recent Stagebridge showcase, I'm really thrilled to be working with them.
