“Just when you find the answer, the question changes.”
If you lived through the 60s you're bound to get a kick out of Lynne Kaufman's new play, "Acid Test: The Many Incarnations of Ram Dass," directed by Joel Mullenix, about the life and times of Ram Dass (born Richard Alpert, April 6, 1931 - Ram Dass means "servant of God"), Timothy Leary, and friends. I saw it in previews the other night (thank you, Theater Bay Area!), so I don't want to say too much. No spoilers here.
If you've been to India, you'll love it. If you're from India, you'll be greatly amused. If you ever dropped acid, it will speak to you. If you know what a puja table is...this play's for you!
Here's Ram Dass on his website. http://login.ramdass.org/WP/webcasts/ He gives frequent webcasts.
Best part for me was the story about Ram Dass driving on the New York Turnpike when he gets stopped by a cop for driving too slowly. Come on, we all know someone who had that happen once, right?
Warren David Keith is really believable as this wealthy elite wild child grown old too soon. Ram Dass had a stroke in 1997, which left him with aphasia.
