Making the "Marius" trailer at Fort Mason Center

Frenchman Roland David Valayre knows how to do so many things: he writes plays, translates from French to English and back again, directs, and creates his own trailers for his Generation Theater productions:

Last weekend, at Fort Mason Center, we actors thrived under his guidance as he directed us in selected scenes from Marcel Pagnol's "Marius," having already designed and hung a velvet backdrop, figured out the simple lighting and camera and mic placements, and arranged the props. He pre-mixed my character Honorene's favorite drink, too: a visually impressive mandarin lemon, made from water and food coloring.

Here I am with wonderful actors Jim Gasperini as the wealthy sail-maker Panissse, and Ket Watters, as bar-owner César. We were all terribly French, but, in English.
