Every day brings another surprise. In today's matinee performance, where I angrily banged Marius' belt on the table, it broke, and the buckle went flying! I am so sorry! I have a back-up, and I hope actor Nathanial Putnam will be able to get his belt fixed by Thursday.
Then, there was the parking issue. As I had predicted, the America's Cup plus the Sunday Farmer's Market today nearly did us in. But, my parking karma held as a nice couple pulled out of their slot just as I was pulling in, then sweetly gave me their paid parking ticket good for another two hours. The issue was, that the two hours would be up at 3:15, about 10 minutes into the show, and then I had to ask Sandy, our wardrobe lady, if she'd run down for me and put money in the meter so I could get through my first scene. She did, but this still meant I had to go down the fire escape with my credit card and add time a bit later. This gave my second scene costume a 20-minute delay, and never mind how it messed with my mind. This thing of going in and out of character mid-play is insane. I can't really do it. I wonder how Ian McKellan would handle it? I guess he has a limo and driver, eh?
Oh, about the excitement: great audience today, and it included a photographer who covered the play and two members of the press!
