This is an old photo of me, a freeze frame from a training video shot for Tricia Day - maybe two years ago. On instinct, I used it as my primary headshot when I applied for the role of another Latina grandma this week. Audition is tomorrow in San Francisco. So, my next issue became - how do I get that look back again, when my hair is a bit different these days? I went to Matin, of course: my brilliant hairdresser would surely know what to do. I said, I sort of want to look like this, as I did in the photo, but, then I showed her an ad in September Vogue, where this beautiful young model has a thick wave of blonde hair framing her face -  a great blow-out. Needless to say, Matin and I had it out. She doesn't laugh out loud too often, but tonight...Oh, she is so astute, and with only a raised eyebrow can tell me I'm a bit not understanding this problem of hair texture...What I got was the perfect compromise...a slight wave on a blow dry, a bit longer than in the photo above, and a lot of hairspray. If only these companies and their casting minions knew what we actors go through, just to pass muster for ourselves!
