Studio Lo Mismo

Today's audition was in downtown San Fran, on Bay to Breakers Day, and fortunately not til late afternoon, so traffic was cool. The air was 90 degrees! I wore a starched white blouse, which felt good. I was seen by
the director and Studio Lo Mismo founder Brant J. Smith (a.k.a. DJ Bad Vegan). Seems like a nice, low key yet intense, guy, in his 30's. I was the last actor to be seen today. He is casting for 3 roles, but, according to one of his assistants, he needs 52 people altogether. This is some serious sci-fi - a story about a virtual reality kind of world set 60 years in the future, with current wars as backdrop. I read for the parts of Trainer Terry and Mom, for which - as blog followers know - I am well rehearsed. She is described as needy and drinking a bit. He had me read both roles 2 ways. In one scene, I am Mom shouting to my kids from another room.

And, oh, yes, after a false start, I delivered my new Erin Brokovich monologue. OK, so it was a bit truncated. I am still proud of getting it together at the last minute. Truth is, you can go into an auditon, feel no nervousness at all, and then, something in the room or the setting, or the mere fact of the camera's presence, can shift your concentration, and there you are.... yourself, vulnerable, clinging to a mere sequence of words. Gotta have chops...My Epic Medical Records Training prepared me for the trainer role - I stood in front of a giant white board and felt like I was right back in front of the classroom.
