Here I am today on the set of "My Name is Khan" in Novato, at the Buck Institute, directed by the biggest director in India, Karan Johar (who wears white Lina Wertmuller sunglasses and an olive military-style jacket) and starring the hottest Bollywoood actor, Shahrukh Khan and his wife, the beautiful and popular Kajol. My colleague Sukanya - an actress and software engineer from Mumbai and beyond - took the photo on her cellphone. People actually snuck onto the set to see SK after one of the extras posted the shoot address on Facebook.
My role? A Muslim supporter of the lead character, Khan, who is calling for world peace and leaving the hospital in this scene, as the crowd goes wild. They let me wear my own big bright turquoise blue cotton shirt and black slacks, then after they shot the first wide take of the crowd, the wardrobe mistress came over to me and said, "I need to give you a hijab." She wrapped me in a polyester white head covering and a black and gold poly scarf, and it was windy on this mountain, and it kept moving, and she hadn't pinned it...so, I think I look like a happy but confused fusion religion lady.
It's on to Sacramento at dawn tomorrow, where the character Khan meets the character Obama.
