My brief appearance at the casting session in Walnut Creek last night was instructive. An agency is looking for women with spirit - apparently, the more real the better. There were no great beauties there, but each of us had something, and mostly, that something that has kept us going in our lives...either great hair, or the tall svelte body, or the fabulous smile, or the great walk in high heels. All shapes, all colors, all sizes, and - all ages. They interviewed us about our experience, then had us perform for the still camera. The most attractive woman there was the fashion photographer, a spunky, wide-eyed young brunette.
Never having done the catwalk or anything remotely associated with it, I snuck a peek into the studio to watch how the photographer directed the other women before it was my turn. We were instructed to pose in 5 different moods, then do the quick smile from three-quarters angle, then quick face flash toward camera. Then we were asked to pose in the classic businesswoman or CEO with arms crossed style, and finally, to face away from the camera holding a water bottle - the product - then turn and present it, like a gift from the gods, to the camera.
I can't really imagine doing modeling. But, now with a little on-camera acting behind me, I realize I have no fear of the camera and I feel playful in front of it.
Whatever happens, and whether I get called in for a shoot or not - into the experience bucket of life it goes...
