Wednesday Night We Got a New Actress

Sadly, the actress slated to play the ingenue character, Corrina Stroller in "The House of Blue Leaves" got the H1N1 flu, so she had to bow out of the show after all these weeks of rehearsing. Luckily, we got a cute young actress, exactly the right type, to replace her. She's a former student of JanLee's (JanLee plays Bananas). Maddie jumped right in last night and read her way through the play. We are all relieved. We know she'll be great. Plus, she's a lithe and perky blond and really looks the part.

Margot says it feels like a real show, like it's all coming together. We have about half of the set, the costumes are being altered and hemmed, nuns are already wearing our black and white shoes, props are in place, and now it sounds as though we nuns even sing pretty well together.

I've been watching "Lilies of the Field"(directed by Ralph Nelson, 1963) and taking tips from the German refugee, Mother Maria, played by Lilia Skala. Getting a kick out of watching the hot young Sidney Poitier, too.
Click title above to see the fun rendition of "Amen" sung in the movie.

Our nuns are in Queens in 1965. And they live in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Yet another rehearsal tonight. I do not complain. Rehearsals are so valuable.
