On Sunday afternoon we nuns finally got our window! We learned how to gather behind it and look adorably desperate to get inside Artie's apartment in Queens, how to climb over the window sill from the steps behind it in long skirts, and how to land inside in a dignified nunnish sort of way. At first, this threw me - so excited by all the business of holding up the window, watching my colleagues, etc., that I forgot a couple of lines or missed my timing. But, we worked on that and I improved.
Scariest part was still having to sing after all the other business, but on the second runthrough of Act 2, Scene 1 on Sunday, Margot seemed happy enough with the results. I had printed out the Schubert sheet music for everyone...I figure if we all pitch in on the tempo and octave choice, we can pull this off. There's actually a fair amount of music in the play - Artie does a lot of singing and piano playing. We could have used a musical director.
It's so exciting to know that each time we rehearse, more of the set has come together. Sue Trigg, who is British, is the artistic director and she has done it all, from acting to directing to set design.
I am finding out that there is a long history of this crew and actors working together. Sukanya and I are the new girls in town.
