Director Tiffany bought my doctor's uniform at a discount place and it fits exactly right: blue scrubs, white coat. I brought the well-worn clogs and they liked 'em. She and Marta, our wardrobe mistress, who carefully took our measurements at my last rehearsal, bought the right stuff. For my other part as Sister Jackie, I was asked to bring a black suit, and I had to put one together from my various elements at home...I still need a little tank top under my jacket, some pearls and earrings, and a proper handbag, and I'll have a hat, a wig, and selection of hose to bring for approval soon.
This can be the most fun part of acting, of make believe. Especially in these days of harsher realities.
It was fun, too, watching everyone else get their outfits together...Daddy Eli's gonna have some wonderful shirts but I'd better not say another word.
