Opening night of "Firstborn" and the gala went swimmingly. We actors were a well-oiled machine. Lines delivered without a hitch or glitch. Tech was a bit frantic, but they got it done. Space was still a bit raggedy, but, you know what? When you see all the people, you don't notice the infrastructure as much.
Many of my friends came, and Lizette delivered the wackiest flowers. The gala was charming, with Dee Dee Hilgesen and Andre Dos Santos Morgan singing as he played the piano in the entryway. The champagne and cider were flowing. I got to catch up with Brian over cheese and crackers. I think he was hungry! Turns out Brian and Andree know each other from a San Francisco neighborhood they shared years ago.
So many of our friends came to lend their support. Quite a moving experience to see the black and white community outpouring!
I know this: many in the audience were really shocked by the storyline and the raw language.
Writer/director Tiffany Golden is going to go far with this drama. I can feel it in my bones.
