The shoot last night was more complex than I had expected, and all improv, no scene descriptions given to me til moment of shoot after lighting was in place, etc. I had three scenes - in the first, I merely hug my daughter good-bye, as she leaves, at 17, to live with her new boyfriend. In the second one, I am talking to an FBI agent about how he plans to wiretap our phones, and in the third one, we have found out the boyfriend is bad bad bad, and just before I mouth the words I am given, the director gave me the three sentences to chew on and say...I finally nailed it in 4 or 5 takes, which included a lot of business with a telephone (as I said, it wasn't easy).
The director several times asked me to "pull back." So, this proves that my recent theater adventures have amplified my acting space and I need to remember to tone it down for video and film. I knew this intellectually, but, somehow, tonight it all came together with his coaching.
