RIP, Elizabeth Taylor

I knew this was a tough month for my birth sign, Pisces, which I have grown up sharing with the incomparable Elizabeth Taylor. And, now that La Liz has passed away at 79 of congestive heart failure, this has been confirmed...rocky times, indeed. Whenever I heard about her struggles with health over the years I noted that just around our birthdays, Elizabeth Taylor managed to come up smelling like a rose, all put together, smiling for the cameras, no matter the battles going on behind the scenes. It always made me feel so much better, too, in my own life.

Seventy years in the business. More than fifty films. Eight marriages. Seven husbands. Four children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Two Academy Awards.

"When Ms. Taylor was honored in 1986 by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Vincent Canby wrote in The New York Times, 'More than anyone else I can think of, Elizabeth Taylor represents the complete movie phenomenon — what movies are as an art and an industry and what they have meant to those of us who have grown up watching them in the dark.'"

Click the title above for the BBC story and two video links to Dame Elizabeth Taylor. The interview is quite remarkable for the depth of emotion she shared late in life.
