Think the odds of getting on a non-reality series TV show are stacked against any thespian over 40? You are right, sad to say. Of 613 major roles in 2011 pilots, over 55% went to male actors, and just over 7% of those went to actors over 50. It's worse for older women.
Lira, the Struggling Actress blogger posted The Pilot Report from a talent agency, The Premier Talent Group, on her site, and I am passing it forward. For the fourth straight year, it reviews the stats for the latest pilots, lists all those that were presented to producers, highlights those that were greenlighted, and lists who got cast. For the first time, it's mainly older established movie stars who are getting roles on TV pilots, 87% of those pilots filed under AFTRA.

Let's drink a toast to Betty White! Then, let's work to improve the landscape for older performers and those who don't fit into the standard prime time cookie cutter.
