The Art of Storytelling at Stagebridge

Went to my second class on The Art of Storytelling at Stagebridge, was roundly applauded for my 3-minute short story based on "an organic apple," and then I audited the first class by the former casting director from ACT, Meryl Shaw, who gives a class on auditioning and also does life coaching.

I went from the organic apple we were given last week as a story prompt,to my life in The Big Apple, to the history of an audio-visual production company I worked for, as VP of Sales...I used phone calls ("Hello, this is Lisa from ...") 3X to establish the decline of that job, run through the decimation caused by AIDS (our designer had died) and my boss' death at 55 from cancer, then my stint at the UN, and how I got to SF and found my first job there, temporarily taking over a job from a pregnant woman; then showed how I taught myself, in secret, how to use a huge Mac. Jeanne Haynes, our instructor, said her favorite thing was when I used my hands to portray the enormous pregnant belly of the 32-year-old I replaced in SF and then how I showed the insanity of using a mouse for the first time with my right hand...Everyone was amused, laughed heartily.

Other stories told today by pros were by and about the local zoo keeper who went to Uganda this summer to see the gorillas for the first time, and by and about the Berkeley shrink who went on a mission to help AIDS sufferers in Kenya last year.

Looking forward to next week's session.
