It seemed important then

Just saw Phil Kaufman's "Hemingway and Gellhorn" on HBO. Admit I was more curious about the tiny roles I had auditioned for last year than in the film itself, initially. But I got drawn in to the war correspondent's story about her marriage to Hemingway. The two roles were an old crone selling a fur coat to Nicole Kidman, and, the wife of a restaurant owner. The first piece remained intact and the actress was, indeed perfect - old, tough, with blackened teeth, just as the script called for. I am glad I am not yet old enough to play this crone. The restaurant scene seems to have been cut. So, had I been cast, had I blinked, I would not have seen myself anyway. The wife was heavier than I - that much I caught. Yes - it all seemed so important on the day I auditioned, and now that the film has been produced and aired and I've seen the final product (which I found very uneven but fascinating), that chapter is over, over, over.
