I was running off to a 10 AM audition for a corporate video in the city when I overheard the news on radio that there had been a shooting on the Bay Bridge. I thought that meant, wait out the traffic til a bit later. In so doing, I stopped at my local cafe, checked my text messages on the cellphone, and found I had been invited to audition for a VO by a Los Angeles casting company. So, I asked my agent if I could do the narration recording for the audition at her office, where there's a nice booth. Done. Then the audio clip was emailed to me and I submitted it online to L.A. Casting. By then, I had made it to the earlier corporate audition. They were very kind about my being a bit late.
Seems I have been running from audition to audition, but the breaks have not come, only the brakes.
I liked this: was supposed to channel my inner Anna Deveare Smith for the corporate audition this morning. I don't usually scowl, but a scowl was called for, so I worked on that. My mother scowls a lot, so I asked her to scowl for me yesterday. Instead, she broke into laughter. I auditioned with a lovely young man who was supposed to be my techie employee. He's good.
A few days ago the VO audition called for two of us, in Spanish, to do a fast-paced dialog about how bad I feel when I have a cold. My favorite line: "Ayyyyyyyyyyyy!" I was paired with a young Latino guy, and this time, we were going for friendship. This one's for a big discount chain.
Over the weekend I met at a coffee shop with a director who wants me to audition for a lead role in Spanish and English for a short indie film...it's about a love affair. Script not yet complete. Kickstarter funding just kicking in. We'll see. He says he wants my old look back for the part: this one.
