Postcard from Marseille

Actor Al who plays Escartefigue in "Marius" was on a European jaunt recently. He dipped into Marseille and promised to send us a postcard, and here it is! Not exactly the Marseille of one's remembrance. It's so built up! Last time I was there, I had hitchhiked with a French boyfriend from Paris, in the early 1970s. Well, we've all changed, haven't we?

That said, we missed Al last night, but young actor Nico, who plays The Fireboy, stepped in for him during rehearsal, and he was adorable and charming. This was a tough one: not until Saturday's email from our director David, did we all know the plan would be to go through the entire play, off book! Rehearsal started on time, and we got just to the end of Act 3 in two hours and 45 minutes. Add up all those inadvertent pauses and missed lines, throw in a few corrections and suggestions, and that must add a good twenty minutes to the run through.

I was imperfectly imperfect in my two scenes, but a kind actor told me that he was enjoying how my character, Honorine, is developing. We've got a long way to go!
