The last few weeks

A quick overview of the last few weeks finds me in zoom-zoom mode: caregiving, teaching, grading papers, editing, hanging out with my beau, catching up with the girlfriends, learning a new song for the cabaret, and auditioning. Did I forget to write about the last few auditions? I felt good about them at the time, and made some new friends in casting, but they led nowhere. The last three disappointments were for Big Hospital, Big Communications, and a local production of the comedy, "Boeing-Boeing." I thought I was a contender each time.
But, there is good news! Today I got a call from a director who has hired me in the past. Seems his client saw me in a video, and now I'm booked for a weekend shoot. Hurray! It's about time! Good timing, too, as I had already planned to get my wild hair done the day before the shoot.
The crazy thing about us still-on-the-ladder actors is that we love the work so much, and rarely really factor in the paycheck. Say, you could spend all summer on a play, rehearsing for six months, and this may yield about $100, and by then you might have spent more than 5X as much on wardrobe, hair, make-up, and commuting. And still, we come back for more!
