The Early Show, Erin B, and Me
I've been using this wonderful bit from the movie "Erin Brokovitch" written by Susannah Grant for my short monologue. Both times it got me the role for which I auditioned. In an eerie coincidence, this morning on CBS' "The Early Show" Erin Brokovitch herself appeared, talking about how incredibly toxic the water in Midland, Texas is - much, much worse than the water in California that the movie was based on was at the time she worked as a legal assistant at the firm Masry and Vititoe, she says. Then they played the clip from the movie and I saw the young and beautiful Julia Roberts in that scene - the scene I know so well, where she says, "...these people don't dream about being rich. They dream about being able to watch their kids swim in a pool without worrying they'll have to have a hysterectomy at age 20..." It sent a frisson, it really did.
