When Your Comps Show Up

It's great to have your friends in the audience - once you've gained confidence in your role. Last night's turnout was a bit smaller than opening night's, so I could actually hear my pal George's laugh and my mother's giggles. The big surprise for all the actors was that someone brought along a little boy, and he laughed at all the things a little boy would, including a huge outburst at Ronnie's (Nick Brunner) Bronx cheer.

Every show is different, and you just have to love that!

My 91-year-old mother followed a longstanding family tradition last night - she trotted herself and our pals to the green room after the show. A strange moment for me for a sec. Oh, I'm the actress...not the audience. Now I know that. It took me back to the time Mum and I went to see Carmen McCrae in New York in the 1960's, when we lived in New Jersey, and how we sat with her in the dressing room as she pulled off her false eye lashes.
