Returned in one piece tonight from yet another adventure in theater: this included a challenging Sunday that required leaving my house in the Bay Area at 6:15 AM to make it to actor Russ' furniture manufacturing company in South Central LA, which he offered the NEBBISH players for rehearsal, at one in the afternoon. Guess which actor arrived early? "Uh-huh!" as my character Heather might say in a fit of articulate posturing... We rehearsed with some negative energy for about three hours. Last night's performance was a 100% improvement on last week's, and that tough, friendless rehearsal did have a payoff. For me, the mini-Sony tape recorder investment has been as good as 12 more rehearsals, though.
But, it's definitely not all work for me: I had beach walks, revisited Newport Beach, communed with gulls and dogs, and found beauty, even discovered the charms of Balboa Island. I also enjoyed glorious home-cooked meals by Cousin Annie and an evening of letting it all hang out with their old pals at their fabulous in-house bar, an old family tradition.
Came home to an invitation to audition for the role of a Jamaican nurse in LA tomorrow: when will we get this time and place thang sorted out?
