"Part 2: Of the Earth" at the Ashby Stage

My dear friend Jeanne invited me to see "Part 2: Of the Earth" at the Ashby Stage for New Year's Eve. Quite an interesting event, notably the brilliant staging, which made creative use of the tiny stage with lots of movement required of the actors up and down ladders for this play based on Homer's "The Odysssey." Smart use of lights backstage and video projections. A cozy atmosphere in the house. Lots of the gang seems to know one another. Now they know me, as I delivered my headshot and resume earlier in the day. A terrific party was held afterwards, with wonderful catered Middle Eastern food from La Mediterranee and decent champagne flowing well past midnight. The actors in this play did a lot of movement and some singing and humming - they were pretty good dancers. After the performance, they joined the audience for a bit of disco before the Best Goddess Costume contest, which Jeanne's pal Milt won as God of Used Care Salesmen.

Based on Homer's The Odyssey

One man's cunning won another man's war. Now this soldier's journey home begins. Demons stand between him and his family, monsters of the past, present and future. Finishing the percussive story that began earlier in the season, this second piece tears apart man's concept of himself, and offers a journey of the traumatized mind through to the brilliance and beauty of destiny.
