Getting the last word

Director Josh sent me the DVD copy of the film, "The Girl Who Called God," and, what's fun is my voice gets the last word in the film. It's a really good film, too! I think Josh may win a prize for this short. I'm going to try to include that clip in my video demo, currently being edited.

Two invitations to audition in L.A. came this week, but I had to turn them both down. I hate that! If only there was a way for them to build in one extra day before reeling us auditioners in, I could get there, at least. Both were for a Latina Spanish speaker, so I am believing that my commercial for Cozy Cuddler, directed by Oscar Bassinson, must be helping to garner interest. Both casting agents called me when I explained online that I had scheduling conflicts, and I really appreciated that. I hope to make up for this in the future.

I am in acting for the long term, so I won't cry over spilled milk. The wonderful, funny, "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" by John Madden really speaks to me: first, how great that I've been to India, and I could relate to every single line of dialogue about that amazing country; and second, after the magnificent performances by Dame Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkison, Maggie Smith and the rest of the cast, I feel it in my bones - there will surely be more roles for actors over 50, over 60, and over 70, and beyond. Casting these roles ought to extend to commercials and TV episodes. I'm an optimist, after all, or I wouldn't be an actress, right?

Caught opening night at the Berkeley Rep last Wednesday: "Black n Blue Boys/Broken Men," the sad and honest stories of sexually abused boys and abusive men (and women), written and performed by Dael Orlandersmith and directed by Chay Yew. A lot of drama in every sense, great acting, tough writing, multicultural influences (from Puerto Rico to London and New York), well done. I think I'd like to see a fuller version of this play with additional actors and a set sometime. There is a lot of potential here, a wealth of combustible material, and it would be terrific for a film or a bigger stage production.
