Melissa and Joan Rivers

2010 photo by David Shankbone.
I am so sad to read about Joan Rivers' current situation. She's on life support now. I am sending my prayers for strength to daughter Melissa, and to Joan, the funniest woman and most original and outrageous humorist alive, for healing and peace.  As a daughter, my heart breaks, too. Surgery of any kind can be so dangerous for the elderly: it doesn't matter how young you look, how vital you are.

This is all I know, from today's Huffington Post:

Melissa Rivers, 46-year-old daughter of Joan Rivers, has released a statement regarding her mother's recent hospitalization.
"On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received. At this time she does remain on life support," Rivers said in a statement released Sept. 2.
"I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers," she wrote.
The 81-year-old comedienne was hospitalized in New York City on Aug. 28 after she stopped breathing during throat surgery.
